At TEDGlobal 2012 we launched a whole new chapter for the TED Prize:
Historically, we awarded $100,000 to individuals who then made a wish, leveraging the goodwill and resources of the TED community. Now the prize will go to one individual with a big wish already in mind, and the award is now $1,000,000.
We are especially excited about how you, the amazing TEDx community, can help to execute and shape this next wish, and unleash new possibilities of the global impact of the TED Prize:
1. Help us shape our thinking on the 2013 TED Prize: Take this poll on what issues you as a TEDx organizer would like to see the TED Prize winner address. We’re looking for a winner that the whole TEDx community could get behind in an open source way – your insight is crucial to the next steps of the prize.
2. Nominate an individual, or individuals, who inspire you, and who have a global vision, to be the next winner of the TED Prize. This is an exciting opportunity to identify someone whose vision and work you truly respect and give them access to capital to execute their project, as well the support of an incredible community and access to a global network. We will also offer a free pass to TED2013 to the person that nominates the winner.
The most competitive nominations will have a compelling vision for just how this wish will catalyze a paradigm-shift and evidence of what it will take to pull it off. It will also include a plan for how the TEDx community can be leveraged in pursuit of this big wish’s realization, in addition to the monetary gift.
You have between now and August 31st to invite that hugely deserving trailblazer in your midst, or encourage them to self-nominate. Nominations must be submitted online.
The winner will be selected this fall by a jury drawn from leading members of the TED community, and will then reveal their wish on February 27th, 2013, during TED2013 in Long Beach, Calif.
3. We also ask that you help spread the word about TED Prize nominations on Facebook, Twitter, your blog or any other channel you feel is appropriate to encourage your networks to nominate and enrich the submission pool. Some sample copy:
